MTV was created to be "television for teens" because other television "didn't care about teens"(Marks).
Those who ran MTV in the earlier days " had almost no television experience"  most of them came from the radio(Marks).

Interview

1. Do you watch MTV shows? If so, which ones? If not, why not?
A: I sometimes watch Jersey Shore because it's really funny how dumb they are.
2.Did you watch MTV before the reality TV shows (not music related) were playing?
A: I used to watch Making the Band but that's it. Well that's the only music related show I saw airing.
3. Does it bother you that they don't play music related TV?
Not really. I think it doesn't makes sense that they don't but it doesn't bother me.
4. If they had music related TV shows would you watch?
Yeah, if they are entertaining and play good music.
5. Do you think the TV shows cause problems?
It depends if people are naive enough to follow the actions of some people on tv then it does cause problems. Like no originality, drinking all the time, sexual intercourse with who ever is willing, etc.
6. Should MTV still be called "MTV"?
No I don't think so. Its not 'Music Television' anymore so it should change with the direction the channel has taken.
7. Do you think the TV shows affected the way people act?
Yeah, some people think everything on TV shows what is "cool" or the "norm" so people copy it.
8. Do you think the TV shows are appropriate?
I wouldn't use the word appropriate to describe them but they are not affecting us positively, but they are entertaining.
9. Do you think MTV is a representation of today's culture?
Yes it kind of does because there has been an increase in teen pregnancy and i know more teens who drink just because they think it's cool.
10. How do you think we can turn MTV into a more positive aspect to society?
Maybe if they didn't encourage teen pregnancy or make it seem like drinking 24/7 is a good thing or acting dumb or getting pregnant young will get you paid.

FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):
EX: The article cites Maria Nikolajeva, a professor of at Cambridge, as saying that Bella does not "in any way promote independent thinking or personal development" in women, instead portraying a woman "meek and willing to do anything for her vampire boyfriend" (POV).
MTV gave "musicians [a chance to] leap off a magazine's glossy pages and show personality"(Spears).
In 1992, the first of 70 reality TV shows on MTV, "The Real World — following the hormone-soaked lives of young adults crammed together in a house —[aired and] began transforming reality TV (Spears).
The program gave opportunities to "Bands like Duran Duran [that] were able to use the medium to convert good looks, fashion and music into Beatle-esque hysteria"(Spears).
In 1985 many witnessed the "Live Aid benefit for Ethiopia in nonstop coverage on MTV"( Spears).
MTV's ""World Premiere Videos" became the first must-see TV" making it a big part of the program (Spears).

Steve Spears is a writes about MTV's growth throughout the years. Speaks about the first words spoken on MTV to what MTV airs today. Quotes video Jockeys from MTV in the 1980s. Credibility of Source:

The author Steve Spears is a times staff writer. I can't find anything about where he was trained.

No it is just an informational article.Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?

I don't detect a bias because Spears talks about how MTV evolved and shows that in the entertainment world it has to. References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?

FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):

The first music video ever played ""Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles served as the perfect song to bring in this new era of music and to begin the MTV legacy"(LT80s).

The original MTV had "tons of music videos, awesome VJs and music news unavailable anywhere else"(LT80s).

Once MTV first came out they had VJs "J.J. Jackson, Mark Goodman, Nina Blackwood, Alan Hunter, and Martha Quinn"(LT80s)

In the year of 1984 "we were presented with the very first MTV Video Music Awards and suddenly the new generation had its very own awards show"(LT80s).

As time went by, during the late 80s "MTV began introducing non-music programming and slowly, over time, the flavor of MTV began to change"(LT80s).

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION): The site Like Totally 80s, misses the MTV from back in the 80s. The site feels that back then MTV was actually about music and not random reality shows. Also, Like Totally 80s, quotes former VJs from the 80s who also agrees MTV has changed.
Credibility of Source: Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site? The site is just a site to inform people of the world in the 80s and an LLC funds it.
Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it  simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business? the site seems like its just pointing out the change. It is not gaining anything

Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing? Yes the author does choses a side that MTV now is different in a bad way (favors the 80s mtv)
References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?
Yes the author does cite Nina Blackwood a former VJ at MTV in the 80s. It adds credibility because it is from someone that used to work at the old MTV.
Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?

I will use it to compare how MTV was in the 80s to how it is today. Prove that it has changed over time.
