Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?

The author Steve Spears is a times staff writer. I can't find anything about where he was trained.
Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business?

No it is just an informational article.Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?

I don't detect a bias because Spears talks about how MTV evolved and shows that in the entertainment world it has to. References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?

FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):

The first music video ever played ""Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles served as the perfect song to bring in this new era of music and to begin the MTV legacy"(LT80s).

The original MTV had "tons of music videos, awesome VJs and music news unavailable anywhere else"(LT80s).

Once MTV first came out they had VJs "J.J. Jackson, Mark Goodman, Nina Blackwood, Alan Hunter, and Martha Quinn"(LT80s)

In the year of 1984 "we were presented with the very first MTV Video Music Awards and suddenly the new generation had its very own awards show"(LT80s).

As time went by, during the late 80s "MTV began introducing non-music programming and slowly, over time, the flavor of MTV began to change"(LT80s).

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION): The site Like Totally 80s, misses the MTV from back in the 80s. The site feels that back then MTV was actually about music and not random reality shows. Also, Like Totally 80s, quotes former VJs from the 80s who also agrees MTV has changed.
Credibility of Source: Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site? The site is just a site to inform people of the world in the 80s and an LLC funds it.
Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it  simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business? the site seems like its just pointing out the change. It is not gaining anything

Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing? Yes the author does choses a side that MTV now is different in a bad way (favors the 80s mtv)
References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?
Yes the author does cite Nina Blackwood a former VJ at MTV in the 80s. It adds credibility because it is from someone that used to work at the old MTV.
Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?

I will use it to compare how MTV was in the 80s to how it is today. Prove that it has changed over time.

FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):

Tina Exarhos, executive vice president of marketing and multiplatform creative projects for MTV, told The News  that "If you watch the channel, you've seen that it's definitely going in a new direction," no longer making it about music(Kinon).

Although other areas of MTV has changed, "the logo was always something that had stayed the same and talk of updating it seemed almost blasphemous" to Exarho(Kinon).

Exarhos admits that the logo was in fact a “fantastic, iconic logo, but it wasn't working for [MTV] in a way that [they] needed it to anymore. It needed to express more about what MTV is today, not what it was in 1981"(Kinon).

As MTV “Ditch[es] the longstanding "music television" tag line seems like a signal that the network has accepted where it now stands” (Kinon).
Olinsky the man who created the MTV logo admits that "MTV now is a whole other reality than MTV was back in the day. Things change. The fact that it doesn't say 'music television' anymore, that's appropriate"(Kinon).

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION):
MTV used to be known as Music Television but now there have been many changes to the network program. MTV has dropped the 'music television' tag and now have added "network talent". Those who work at MTV have confirmed and accepted the change of MTV program.
Credibility of Source:

The author has nothing to gain from writing this it is just informative.
Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?
There is no bias in the author's writing; she does not choose a side.

References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?
The author uses people who work at MTV, adding credibility.
Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?

I plan to use this source as proof that even the people working at MTV know that their program has changed and drifted away from music.
